San Lorenzo Golf Course Tips

Hole 1 (Par 5)

A long opening hole with a tee drive down to a testing left dogleg. The second shot straight forward but the approach shot is to a well defended green with four bunkers.

Hole 2 (Par 3)

This hole requires accuracy and good club selection as is to a butterfly shaped green with a front defending bunker and another back left.

Hole 3 (Par 4)

The third hole is interesting as it has a dogleg fairway to the left with awaiting bunkers to catch any unsteady drive. Again the green is defended with bunkers front and left and right to the rear.

Hole 4 (Par 4)

A fourth hole which is a slightly tricky dogleg right as a tee drive down the hill which when lands too much to the right could end up in a bunker due to the slope of the fairway. The green is one of the most difficult to read on the course.

Hole 5 (Par 3)

This hole is the shortest one on the course. A drive across a deep hollow to a table-top green with a backdrop of sand dunes and the ocean. As to be expected bunkers are waiting for the errant shot.

Hole 6 (Par 4)

The sixth hole is demanding from the tee. The elevated tee presents a downhill drive with with difficulty both left and right of the fairway and with water awaiting the longer hitter. The approach shot need accuracy due to the small green which had bunkers both left and right.

Hole 7 (Par 4)

A seventh hole which follows along the lake on the right hand side. A steep bank on the left and encroaching water on the right requires a good tee drive. The approach shot is to quite a generous green with three bunkers ringing the rear.

Hole 8 (Par 5)

The eighth hole is the last hole ringing the lake on the right side and requires careful play due to its snaking layout. Bunkers to the left await the wayward tee drive. The second shot is also threatened by bunkers to the left and determines the amount of water to cross on the approach to a tight green.

Hole 9 (Par 4)

Leaving behind the lake the ninth hole is uphill which offers a dangerous invitation to cut the corner as a large bunker awaits. The green has bunkers to the front left and along the right side.

Hole 10 (Par 5)

This hole has a tee drive across the tip of the lake onto an uphill slope limiting any forward roll and avoid the left side of the fairway. The second shot must reach the narrow plateau in order to view the green but bunkers await either side of the landing area. The green is defended by two front bunkers.

Hole 11 (Par 4)

A straightforward fairway with contours for the eleven hole. The drive is to a ridge which drops away before raising again to the green. The well defended green by front bunkers leaves no room for either too long an approach shot.

Hole 12 (Par 4)

A twelve hole presenting danger from the elevated tee. A bank to the right side will throw the ball back to the fairway whilst the ravine to the left is full of danger. The approach shot is to a generous long green with a bunker front left.

Hole 13 (Par 4)

This short hole curves from the right to the left with two bunkers awaiting the errant ball from players cutting the corner. The approach shot is downhill to a green with bunkers front left and right and one to the rear.

Hole 14 (Par 3)

The fourteenth hole is full of danger to any player looking to land his shot on the left-hand side of the green. generous bunkers to the front and behind plus a steep bank provides the challenge.

Hole 15 (Par 5)

This hole rolls gently down from the tee and finally up to a plateau green. The essence of the challenge on this hole is the number of strategically placed bunkers lining the fairway and the small well defended green.

Hole 16 (Par 3)

A long par 3 sixteenth hole with defending large bunkers to the front and rear. Attention should be given to the prevailing wind.

Hole 17 (Par 4)

The attractive seventeenth hole is lined on the left with the lagoon. The landing area is generous and a steep right hand bank brings errant drives back onto the fairway. Two bunkers on the left side of the fairway are to catch the long hitters. The approach shot must be placed on the green as the lagoon is protective.

Hole 18 (Par 4)

The eighteenth is the signature hole of the San Lorenzo Course for good reasons. The second shot to the green is most demanding with water in play and a green well protected by three strategically placed bunkers.
